Inspiration

i look at other's online photos and blogs for inspiration. i get self-conscious what I make will never be as beautiful as what other people make. I remind myself to express what is uniquely mine to express. The word "Inspiration" comes from the latin word "spiritus," which means breath. Our breath, the rhythm of our inhalations and exhalations, is uniquely our own. Likewise, the things we make and how we decorate, our individual taste is our own and has merit too.

crafty feeling

addictive to sew, these potholders are great for using up fabric remnants. My taste in fabric seems to change daily. I found some fabric that has a retro vibe without being too bright or cute and used pieces of wool, canvas and linen to add some texture. got the pattern from Lotta Jansdotter's book, "Simple Sewing." Used Pellon's crib 100% wool batting and 3 layers basted together seems to work. These are my first attempt at potholders. They'll get better with some practice.

sanity

i titled this post "sanity" because the minute we got this thing hung up and i finished the puzzle-like process of hanging utensils, some sanity was restored to our kitchen. This is Margaret Oomen's idea that i stole from the back page of "Dwell" magazine.
